Summer… it’s a doozy in Texas. It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s rough. Not to mention this summer brought Hurricane Harvey. It has absolutely devastated the area. I have friends and family who have lost everything. I have a whole new respect for Kevin Hart and JJ Watt who have recognized the power and influence they have and have already raised millions! I love seeing celebrities use their influence for the greater good.
On a brighter note, we’re slowly inching a little closer to fall which means lower temps and little less humidity. This summer actually has felt longer than most. Usually we’re at the river every weekend and soaking up every sun drenched moment, but unfortunately we’ve been stuck inside working a little more than usual so I’m guessing that’s why it feels a little longer than usual. I sure do miss the days back when me, Megan, and Jacob spent every waking moment of our weekend floating the river. That came with a pretty awesome tan too!
Here’s my round-up of a few of my favorite summer items this year.
My favorite candle:
Bath & Body Works Raspberry Lime Margarita Candle
Here’s the thing. I usually don’t really like the summer smelling candles. I’m totally a fall/winter scent person. So, when I go on my typical candle buying binge (hello $12.50 3 wicks!) I usually struggle to find ones I truly love in the summer. The biggest thing is that while I like them on the initial smell, once I light them in my house sometimes they are really over powering and I get tired of them quickly. That was definitely not the case with this one. Every time I light it, I love it. I let it burn just as long as I let my fall scents burn. It’s a great smell that isn’t too summery.
My favorite makeup item:
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
Ok so first of all, it’s only like $8! Hello awesome price point. In recent years I’ve strayed away from drug store brands. The smells, the crappy quality, the inability to try samples in the store, etc. They all kind of pushed me away. But this, this changed me. Okay, maybe it didn’t change me, but it definitely is a love of mine. So like I said, here in Texas the humidity of summer is brutal. You can basically expect all of your makeup to either melt or sweat off. I don’t have the great skin genes some others have so I don’t have the ability to just confidently go out makeup-less. This little guy is super light weight and just the right amount of coverage to help even out your skin tone. I usually plop this on with some bronzer and mascara and call it day.
My favorite summer drink:
Strawberry Vanilla Sprite from Sonic
I discovered recently that Sonics weren’t on every corner for everyone. I’ve grown up with a Sonic within a couple miles of my house and never realized they weren’t as prevalent as McDonald’s across the nation. So if you’re one of those that doesn’t have the luxury of getting Sonic drinks on a regular basis, I feel for you! I know this combo sounds a little weird, but it’s so good and perfect for summer!
My favorite summer clothing item:
Fossil Neely Cat Eye Sunglasses
First of all, sunglasses are necessity in the summer! These are really light weight, comfortable, and the perfect darkness. Plus, when I toss them in my purse they don’t get scratched. I have no idea how, but they somehow don’t and I love that!
My favorite summer food:
Ummm… where has this melon been my whole life? I actually accidentally bought this instead of a regular cantaloupe and it was the best mistake ever. It’s like a cantaloupe, but much sweeter and much better! If you haven’t tried one yet, run to your local grocery store and pick one up before they are out of season. They are absolutely delicious!
My favorite summer movie:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
I loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy so I fully expected to love this one too, and I did. It’s one of my favorite types of movies where it’s action packed, but full of jokes throughout. It was definitely one we will watch over and over.
My favorite summer TV show:
Let’s just be honest, Big Brother is and always will be my favorite summer tv show. If they ever take it off the air, I’ll be super bummed. It’s my guilty pleasure tv show by far. So many times when I first watch the season I think, “ehhh… I don’t know if this cast will be entertaining.” I’m always wrong. They are always drama filled and entertaining. It’s even better that it comes on 3 times a week! I definitely could never be on the show. Seriously, sharing one bathroom with almost 20 other people… yuck. It gives me anxiety just thinking about it.
