how to make carnitas

Carnitas are seasoned, tender, caramelized, shredded pork. I'm going to break down how to make carnitas in the oven, crockpot, and Instant Pot.

– boneless pork butt or shoulder – oil – salt & pepper – beef stock – oranges – lime – ground cumin – chili powder – dried oregano – ground coriander – onion – garlic – jalapeno

Season the pork and sear all sides in a dutch oven over medium-high heat. Remove the pork.

Deglaze the pan with the stock and add in the orange juice, lime juice, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and coriander.

Add the pork back in and add in the onion, garlic, and jalapeno on top. You don't need to stir. Bake for 2 hours.

Remove the pork and shred on a baking sheet. Set aside.

Simmer the cooking liquid until thickened, about 20 minutes. Pour over shredded meat and broil for 3-5 minutes.
