This honey-glazed bacon recipe is the perfect blend of sweet and savory, made with a technique that guarantees crispy edges, and melts in your mouth. If you’re ready for a better bacon, trust me—this is the one that’ll have everyone asking for more.

Crispy honey bacon served in a parchment paper covered platter.

When it comes to bacon, there’s an art to achieving the perfect balance of crispy and tender, and I’ve spent years perfecting that process. Coating it with honey adds a rich layer of flavor that caramelizes in the oven, turning ordinary bacon into something truly special. With my recipe, you’re not just getting bacon; you’re getting a next-level treat that’s easy to make but feels indulgent.

What sets this method apart is how it’s designed to give you consistent results every time. The honey is carefully drizzled to provide just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the bacon’s smoky and salty flavor. Plus, baking it in the oven ensures that the bacon cooks evenly without the need for constant flipping or supervision, saving you time and effort while you’re in the kitchen.

This recipe has been tested, tweaked, and perfected, so you can confidently serve it at brunch or as a special addition to really any meal like burgers or sandwiches.

Why you’ll love this honey bacon recipe

It’s quick and easy. It’s perfect for everything from breakfast to brunch to burgers and sandwiches. You can even use it for casseroles or in Potato Soup.

The combination of sweet and salty hits just right. It also gives consistent results every time.

It’s really great in any recipe that calls for bacon whether its bacon strips like in a BLT or crumbled bacon in a casserole like this Chicken Bacon Ranch one.

It’s really just two simple ingredients put together and placed in the oven. Since you aren’t cooking it in a pan, you have less cleanup because you’re avoiding those splatters.

Ingredients for honey bacon

The great thing about this recipe is that you only need two ingredients!

  • Bacon – you’ll want to grab either thick-cut bacon or center cut. It’s important that you don’t have very thin, mostly fat bacon. Grab a quality cut for this. You could even use peppered bacon in this to take it up another notch. That typically is coated with ground black pepper on the edges.
  • Honey – I’m a big fan of local honey, but just use your favorite honey here. You don’t need a lot. You don’t want to drown the bacon in honey. You still want it to be able to crisp up properly.

Substitutions and alterations

I wouldn’t substitute the bacon in this one for anything like turkey bacon, however, you could replace the honey with maple syrup.

The flavor of maple syrup can go a long way, so be conservative with the amount you add to the bacon. Remember, it’s important not to put too much because you still want the bacon to be able to crisp up.

Another great option is hot honey! If you like a little spice, this is the perfect recipe for that.

Bacon vs. Turkey Bacon

When it comes to flavor and texture, bacon and turkey bacon offer different experiences. Traditional pork bacon has a rich, smoky taste with a crisp, fatty texture than many people consider irreplaceable, especially when its cooked correctly.

Turkey bacon on the other hand, tends to have a milder flavor and leaner, chewier texture. While both can be used in most recipes interchangeably, traditional bacon provides that extra depth of flavor and satisfying texture that’s hard to replicate.

Ultimately, the choice comes down to the taste and texture you prefer, but for recipes like mine, the bold, classic taste of traditional bacon really shines.

How to make honey bacon

This honey coated bacon is incredibly easy to make.

Raw bacon placed in strips on a parchment paper covered baking sheet to prepare honey bacon.
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  2. Place bacon strips flat in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Try not to overlap the pieces at all.
Honey drizzled over bacon strips resting on a parchment paper covered baking sheet.
  1. Thinly drizzle the honey over the slices of bacon. Evenly divide it among all the slices. Remember, you’re not submerging the bacon in honey. It’s just a drizzle.
  2. Bake it in the oven for 15-20 minutes. You may need more or less time depending on the thickness of your bacon and your desired crispness. Center cut bacon will need closer to 15 minutes, while thick cut may need closer to 20 minutes.

  1. Remove the bacon from the oven and place the cooked bacon on a paper towel-lined plate to drain the extra grease.
  2. Serve it up and enjoy!

Tips and tricks

Try to keep the honey drizzle in thin layers on the bacon so that it can still crisp up properly in the oven. If you’d prefer, you can also lightly brush it on instead of drizzling.

If you like a little heat, you can mix a little cayenne pepper, chili powder, or coarse black pepper into the honey before drizzling. If it’s hard to mix into the honey, heat the honey briefly in a small bowl or small saucepan so that it’s a thinner consistency, and then mix them together.

A roasting wire rack or cooling rack is not necessary for making bacon in the oven.

Top Tip

Honey-glazed bacon can burn quickly. Once it’s cooked through and you’re trying to get it to crisp up, it’s important to keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning. The honey will quickly turn it from crisp to burned.

How to serve this honey bacon recipe

What goes well with bacon? So many things! From breakfast to dinner to even dessert, there are so many great ways to serve this honey bacon.

It’s great alongside your morning breakfast with eggs, pancakes, waffles, or even breakfast sandwiches and burritos.

It’s also great inside baked potatoes or on top of stuffed sweet potatoes.

I’m a huge fan of adding it to smoked hamburgers with some barbecue sauce. It’s also excellent on top of salads instead of using bacon bits.

How to store leftover bacon

Cooked leftover bacon can be refrigerated in an airtight container or zip top bag for up to 5 days. Allow it too cool completely before storing though to avoid condensation.

You could also freeze cooked bacon for up to 2 months when it’s stored properly.

How to reheat leftover bacon

You can reheat cooked bacon in the oven or in the microwave.

Oven – Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place cooked bacon strips on a parchment lined baking sheet and heat in the oven for 5-10 minutes.

Microwave – Place a couple paper towels on a microwave safeplate. Heat on high for 10-15 seconds at a time until heated through.

Something you really have to be careful of when reheating bacon is burning it. You don’t want to quickly overcook it when just trying to reheat it. Low and slow is best.

FAQs

How long can bacon sit out?

Cooked bacon can safely sit out at room temperature for about two hours. After that, it’s best to refrigerate it. Always store cooked bacon in an airtight container in the fridge.

How long can you freeze bacon before it goes bad?

Uncooked bacon can be safely stored in the freezer up to 6 months when stored properly. To preserve it’s quality and prevent freezer burn, it’s best to wrap the bacon tightly in plastic wrap or foil, then place it inside of an airtight freezer bag. While freezing bacon beyond six months won’t necessarily make it unsafe to eat, the texture and flavor may begin to degrade over time. When you’re ready to use it, thaw the bacon in the refrigerator overnight.
