substitutions in jalapeno dip

You can substitute the cheddar cheese with Monterey jack cheese or even pepper jack (Monterey with peppers) for a spicier kick.

Take this up a notch by adding in some cooked crumbled sausage before baking. It will not only bulk it up, but add a ton of flavor.

tips and tricks for hot popper dip

Use freshly grated cheese. Pre-shredded cheese has an anti-caking agent on it that prevents it from melting as well.

Broiling it helps brown the top breadcrumb mixture, but it can burn if you’re not careful. Keep an eye on it; it will only need 1-2 minutes.

To make this spicier, leave the ribs and seeds in. You can also add additional jalapeños for extra spice. You can also use pepper jack cheese instead of cheddar.

how to store jalapeno popper dip with bacon

Allow the dip to cool completely before storing.

Refrigerator: Place the dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 3 days.

Freezer: Transfer the cooled dip to an airtight, freezer-safe container. You can also use a freezer-safe zip-top bag.

how to reheat jalapeno popper dip

If you’re removing the dip from the freezer, you’ll need to let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight. It may separate when freezing so you’ll want to stir it to combine it back together.

I recommend reheating the dip in the oven at 350ºF for about 20 minutes until heated through.

You can also reheat it in the microwave. You will want to stir it periodically to make sure it’s evenly heating through.

make ahead instructions for cream cheese and jalapeno dip

You can assemble this dip up to 3 days in advance. Make this dip up until the point of baking, but leave the breadcrumb mixture separate.

Keep it in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake it.

Remove it from the refrigerator while the oven preheats to let it come to room temperature before baking. Top with the breadcrumb mixture before placing it in the oven.

You may need to add a few minutes to the baking time if it’s still cool when it goes into the oven.

can you freeze jalapeno popper dip?

While it’s possible to freeze jalapeno popper dip, the texture may change slightly when it’s thawed. Creamy dips with cream cheese can separate during freezing.

While the taste won’t change, the texture might. Sometimes the cheese can become a little bit grainy from the separation and reheating.

Tips:

  • If the dip appears separated after thawing, stirring it can help improve the texture.
  • Avoid freezing the breadcrumb topping with it. It’s best to add them after it’s been thawed and right before reheating.
  • While the flavor may still be good, the texture may not be as creamy as when it’s freshly made.

Keep in mind that freezing and reheating can affect the overall quality of creamy dips, but many people find the convenience of freezing outweighs the slight change in texture.

Jalapeno Popper Dip goes well with a lot of things! Some of my favorites are:
