Caramel Apple Slices Recipe
It’s the time of year for pumpkins and apples. Of the two, I definitely prefer apples. Caramel apples are always one of my favorite fall treats. When you’re looking for something easy and simple to serve for your fall or Halloween party, caramel apples aren’t exactly the “cleanest” treat! By cutting them into bite size servings, served with these little appetizer forks, they are easy to handle and clean up is a breeze.
I like to sprinkle mine with some colored sugar crystals. It adds an extra flavor & tiny crunch that changes them up a bit.
Best Apples to Use for Caramel Apples
The best apples to use for caramel apples are granny smith. I find that the tart taste pairs great with the caramel to avoid having an overly sweet apple bite.

- When smooth, remove the saucepan from the heat.
- Wash, core, and cut apples into slices.
- Place a toothpick into each slice.
- Holding the apple slice by the toothpick, run the skin side of the apple in the caramel allowing the excess to run off.
- Sprinkle the slices with sugar crystals while the caramel is still hot.

- You can choose to leave the toothpicks in or remove and insert small appetizer forks to serve.
How to Keep Caramel from Sliding off Apple Slices
The best way to keep the caramel from sliding off the apples is to pop them in the refrigerator as soon as you’re done dipping. This will cool the caramel quickly so that it can adhere to the apples without sliding off while hot.
Toppings for Caramel Apples
I like to stick with sugar crystals, but you can top them with all of your favorite candy apple toppings. Some ideas include:
- Nuts
- Graham cracker crumbs
- Mini m&ms
- Crushed cookies
How to Store Caramel Apple Slices
Caramel apple slices are best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
