Lemon Butter Salmon Baked in Foil FAQs
- I prefer to use unsalted butter in order to control the salt in the dish. Because the Tuscan Herb Seasoning has salt in it already, I find that unsalted butter gives the best flavor.
- Always use fresh lemons. While buying store-bought lemon juice may seem like a quick shortcut, it will change the overall flavor.
- Fresh lemons will give you the best flavor. Having the slices rest on the salmon through the cooking process allows the juice to soak in as it bakes.
- You can broil it at the end. If you like a crispy exterior to your salmon, you can open the foil packets and broil for the last minute or so of cooking time to crisp up the top. You’ll want to remove the lemon slices before doing this.
Lemon adds an excellent citrus flavor to salmon.

Start by laying the foil across a flat surface. Place the salmon filet in the middle of the foil. Add your seasoning, lemon, and butter on top. Grab opposite sides of the foil and bring them together at the top. Roll them down together. Grab the remaining opposite sides of foil and roll them into the salmon and seal them all together.
For an average 6-ounce salmon filet, I recommend baking them for 12 minutes at 425°F.
I prefer to buy wild-caught salmon with the skin already removed. I find it easiest to work with and have the best flavor.
Salmon is fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 145°F. It should be tender and fall apart easily.
