They’re simple for the kids to make, fun, cute, and spooky. Your kids will love making these and the mess is minimal.

  • Milano cookies – you can also use any long, oval shaped cookie that you like
  • Almond bark – I find that almond bark works best, but you can also use white chocolate
  • Mini candy eyes – the smallest ones work best and fit on the cookies well

how to make halloween cookies

Detailed instructions and measurements to make mummy cookies are listed in the recipe card at the bottom of this page.

  1. Add the almond bark to a microwave safe bowl. Melt in the microwave (or double boiler) just until smooth. Be careful not to overheat to avoid clumping.
  2. Take each cookie and dip them 3/4 of the way down and place on a parchment lined sheet.
  3. While the almond bark is still wet, place two eyes on each of the cookies in the upper 1/4 of the almond bark.
  4. While the cookies are setting, pour the remaining melted almond bark into a zip top bag. I find it easiest to place the bag in a cup to hold it up.
  5. Snip a small corner of the bag and drizzle the almond bark over the cookies going side to side. I find that they look best when you get close to the eyes (and sometimes go slightly over) rather than skipping them completely.
  6. Allow the cookies to cool and set completely before serving.

tips, tricks and faqs

Don’t overheat the almond bark. When almond bark gets overheated, it begins to clump and get hard. You want to heat it just until it begins to get smooth.

If there are still small pieces in the bowl, stir the heated mixture around until they melt. Don’t put it in the microwave for additional time.

What cookie can I use instead of Milano cookies?

You can use any cookie that is a long oval shape.

Can I replace almond bark with white chocolate?

Yes, you can use melted white chocolate in place of almond bark. I would recommend adding a little bit of coconut oil to help with the hardening.
