Buffalo Ranch Sauce

Ranch lovers, this one’s for you.

All the ranch lovers I know love the classic ranch dressing, of course, but we also love to try other flavors of ranch. Avocado ranch? Yes. Bacon ranch? Sign us up. Spicy ranch? OH YES.

This Buffalo Ranch Sauce is absolute perfection. You can make it from scratch with just four ingredients, but I’ll also show you how to make any store-bought ranch dressing into buffalo ranch.

Buffalo ranch sauce is a type of sauce that combines the tangy and spicy flavors of buffalo sauce with the creamy and cool taste of ranch dressing. The sauce contains a mixture of hot sauce and seasonings which is then mixed with ranch seasoning mix, sour cream, or mayo. Fresh chives are sometimes thrown in the mix as well.

You are going to want to put it on everything from chicken wings to pizza to french fries to burgers to… well, I guess we should throw salads into the mix.

Add your burger to a brioche bun and drizzle with buffalo ranch for an amazing combo.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Who doesn’t love a recipe that comes together in 5 minutes or less?! This one is all of that and more, plus:

  • It’s EASY to make. You don’t need to be a chef, promise.
  • You can control how spicy you make it.
  • Versatile and delicious, it works as a dipping sauce or dressing for so many dishes.
Ingredients need to make buffalo ranch sauce.

Ingredients for buffalo ranch

Here’s what to pick up at the grocery store to make this easy spicy ranch:

  • buttermilk – You can buy it at the store or make your own buttermilk substitute with regular milk and lemon juice or vinegar.
  • mayonnaise – Duke’s Mayo brand is the best for making homemade dressings.
  • ranch mix – Hidden Valley Restaurant Style Ranch mix gets my vote.
  • buffalo sauce – Frank’s Red Hot is the classic choice for things like Buffalo Chicken Dip but you can use any brand of buffalo sauce.

Want something even faster? You can start with a base of store-bought ranch! You don’t have to make your own. Simply stir in the buffalo sauce until it’s your desired spice level.

How to Make Buffalo Ranch

You’re not going to believe how easy this Buffalo Ranch is! Let’s make it together.

Buttermilk and mayonnaise added to a mixing bowl.

Step 1

First, get out a medium bowl and a whisk. I like using a silicone whisk for dressings.

Then add the buttermilk and mayonnaise to a mixing bowl and whisk until combined and totally smooth. You don’t want any chunks of mayonnaise remaining.

Dry ranch seasoning added to the mayo mixture in a bowl.

Step 2

Stir in the ranch mix and whisk until combined. It shouldn’t be clumpy so keep whisking until it’s smooth.

Buffalo sauce added to the mayo mixture.

Step 3

Lastly, pour in the buffalo sauce and mix together until combined. Taste it, and add more buffalo sauce if desired.

Store in a food-safe, airtight container such as a flip-top glass bottle or mason jar.

Tips & Tricks

The order you do everything matters. Don’t simply dump all the ingredients into the bowl and hope for the best.

I recommend whisking the mayo and buttermilk together before adding the ranch so that you have a smooth, consistent flavor.

Control how spicy by the type and amount of buffalo sauce. If spice is a concern for you, start with half of what the recipe calls for, and taste. If you can handle more, add a little more and taste again.

Buffalo Ranch Dressing

This Buffalo Ranch Sauce works beautifully as a salad dressing.

Use it any time you’d use ranch dressing. We love it on this Cobb Salad as well as on this BBQ Chicken Salad.

You can even use it in side dish salads like ranch potato salad and ranch pasta salad for an extra kick.

Buffalo Ranch Dipping Sauce

The options for using this ranch sauce as a dipping sauce are absolutely endless. Here are a few of my favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • Wings: Dip your favorite chicken wings in this spicy sauce.
  • Pizza: Cheese and pepperoni with spicy ranch? Yes please! This BLT Pizza would be perfect.
  • Fries: Use this buffalo ranch as a fry sauce for both regular fries and sweet potato fries.
  • Potatoes: Honestly, any kind of potato goes well with ranch. Try it with potato wedges or twice baked potatoes
  • Veggies: Celery sticks and carrots never tasted so good!
  • Chicken fingers and chicken nuggets: Spice is a great way to elevate these childhood favorites!
